The renowned cultural organization ‘Prochchhod’ of Kurigram staged the drama ‘Aj Kamondoler Fashi’ (The Hanging of Kamondol) as part of its latest cultural event. The play was staged on Friday (September 25) at the Municipal Town Hall Auditorium near College More in the district town, drawing an audience of more than five hundred. As part of Prochchhod’s 53rd production, the performers captivated the audience with a story-driven performance featuring emotional dialogues and scenes filled with sorrow, laughter, tears, and the struggles of everyday life. Set against the backdrop of the post-July 2024 period, the drama portrays the lives of thousands of workers who have lost their jobs following the closure of various factories across the country. ‘Aj Kamondoler Fashi’ explores their financial hardships, family struggles, frustration, and the incidents and tragedies that arise from their difficult circumstances. Kamondol is the central character of the play. Struggling with poverty, addiction, and despair, Kamondol eventually kills his wife in a moment of anger. He is ultimately sentenced to death for the crime and faces the gallows. Through his tragic fate, the drama portrays the struggles of working-class people, family instability, and various realities of society.
