A 55-kilogram Bagarius catfish was caught in fishermen's nets in the Brahmaputra near Hatia Anantapur in Ulipur. According to information published on 22 June 2026, the fish changed hands several times before being sold for a total of Tk 74,250.

Fisherman Bakul Chandra and his partners made the catch. Because transporting such a large fish from the remote area was difficult, local teacher Sajedul Islam bought it at Tk 1,250 per kilogram and later sold it to trader Asar Uddin at Tk 1,300 per kilogram.

The trader then sold the fish at Tk 1,350 per kilogram. Its unusual size drew a crowd of curious residents.

Fisheries officials say monsoon rain and upstream flows increase the movement of large fish in the Brahmaputra. Bagarius is listed as endangered, making public awareness and protection of river biodiversity especially important.
