Ulipur (Kurigram) Representative:Erosion has intensified along the banks of the Brahmaputra from North Namazer Char of Ulipur's Sahib Alga Union to the police investigation station. Local residents claim that more than one and a half hundred homesteads and several hundred bighas of arable land have been lost in the river in one year. As the erosion continues, five government primary schools, one lower secondary school, two high schools, two colleges, land office, police investigation center and union council are at risk, according to local residents.

On September 16 at noon, a human chain was formed in Char area of North Namaz to demand permanent resistance. Local residents and students participated in it, demanding rapid surveys, emergency protection and long-term river management plans.

Many of the families affected by the erosion are forced to move their houses again and again. Locals say that not only urgent sandbags, but permanent works to protect homesteads and educational institutions and rehabilitation of displaced families need to be planned together.
