Two children died in separate pond incidents in Ulipur, Kurigram, on the morning of 20 August 2026. A third child was injured after falling into water.

The victims were four-year-old Arman from West Naodanga in Ulipur municipality and three-year-old Masud Rana from Umananda village in Tabakpur union. According to family members and local residents, both fell into nearby ponds while playing out of sight of adults. Doctors declared them dead after they were taken to the upazila health complex.

In Doklapara of Daldalia union, another child named Sumaiya was injured in a separate water incident. She received initial treatment in Ulipur and was later referred to Kurigram General Hospital.

The incidents renew calls for stronger child-safety measures around household ponds, including barriers, constant supervision and basic rescue and CPR training for family members.
