Labourer Abdul Karim built a roughly 120-foot wooden bridge over the Burhi Teesta in Zonaidanga, Ulipur municipality. Funded with 25 years of savings, the bridge was inaugurated by his mother on 17 April 2026.

The project cost nearly Tk 300,000. Karim combined his wages saved over the years with money from selling a goat and his motorcycle.

Residents previously had to use a dangerous railway bridge near Ulipur station. The route was especially difficult for students, patients and workers, and became riskier during the monsoon.

The new bridge has eased travel for several nearby villages. Residents praised the initiative, while regular structural checks, maintenance and a durable public bridge remain important for long-term safety.
